Sol y Luna Consulting is a Mission-Driven business aiming to democratize knowledge through an intersectional, decolonialist lens. We are proud to work hard to be a sustainable, ethical business. our values include compensating people fairly for their labor and respecting knowledge, expertise, and lived experience.

knowledge is power. power to the people. knowledge to the people. this is our motto. we believe in an authentic, radical approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion work. democratization of knowledge is one of the keys to achieving liberation from systems of oppression. our goal is to empower all folks through education and help them unlearn internalized racism, misogyny, homophobia, ablism, and other ways people unknowingly participate in harmful systems. we provide comprehensive dei consulting services to organizations, institutions, companies, groups, and individuals through a decolonialist, intersectional lens.

diversity, equity, and inclusion have become buzzwords almost devoid of any meaning in most corporate and consulting spaces. we have to reclaim these words. dei is not just a badge to achieve, a game to play, a box to check and then pat ourselves on the back for “completing.” it is an ongoing journey that we should all be actively engaged in throughout our lives.

do you want to “do better” but aren’t sure where to start? do you think your workplace could use some training? have you heard certain terms and aren’t sure what they mean? do you want to support a small minority owned business? you’re in the right place and we can help!

franca Roibal Fernández, ph.d.

our founder is a scholar, educator and researcher in the spanish language, Latin American and latino studies field. she is also a diversity, equity, and inclusion practitioner and an immigrant from the global south who’s research focuses on manifestations of popular culture as they relate to periods of fascist dictatorships in the southern cone of South America.

while working at a white supremacist exploitative institution, her priorities started to shift into the Dei space, as marginalized students were drawn to her classes and spaces on campus, described by students as the only spaces they had encountered where they truly felt safe and liberated. while this was flattering and lovely, it was also heartbreaking. she started to focus on attempting to draw attention to the lack of spaces where minoritized students, faculty, and staff could feel welcome.

one of the biggest realizations during this period was that dei work needs to be inherently radical, decolonizing, and intersectional, and it cannot be relegated to a single office or space on campus. because minoritized folks already do a disproportionate amount of emotional labor by just existing in oppressive spaces, in order for it to truly make a difference dei work needs to be undertaken by everyone, and everyone must be willing to accept their complicity in oppressive systems.

academia is not a space that is very welcoming of these narratives, and thus sol y luna was born. this is a space where democratization of knowledge will thrive. it is contradictory to liberation to keep all the knowledge locked up in ivory towers. education can be a powerful tool, and it’s time to for the knowledge to belong to the people.

Alyssa is a recent college graduate with a dual degree in Political Science and History, as well as a Certificate in Indigenous Studies. Her passions include dei work, reproductive justice, prison reform, and highlighting the need to fight for Indigenous sovereignty. While it is indisputable that tribes are sovereign nations, there are people who still believe they aren’t (and a lot of those people are in US office!). It is not Indigenous peoples’ job to teach us how to make amends with them after their brutal mistreatment from contact to now, it is our job to do better & join them in the fight for Indigenous autonomy.

Outside of her advocacy, Alyssa loves Broadway shows, Big Brother, and collecting vinyl records.
